CHANDIGARH: The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has registered a new disproportionate assets case against suspended DIG Harcharan Singh Bhullar of Punjab Police, who is already under arrest.
Bhullar was earlier arrested by the CBI on October 16 for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹8 lakh from a scrap dealer as ‘service water’. Following his arrest, a CBI team raided his residence in Sector 40, Chandigarh, and recovered ₹7.5 crore in cash and 2.5 kg of gold ornaments.
During the search, officials also seized 26 luxury watches, including Rolex and Rado brands, documents related to over 50 immovable properties held in the names of family members and suspected benami entities, keys to bank lockers, details of multiple bank accounts, 100 live cartridges, and four weapons.
After Bhullar’s arrest, the agency searched several of his bank lockers as well. A CBI official said that the assets uncovered during the raids were several times higher than Bhullar’s known sources of income, leading to the registration of a fresh FIR.
The official added that the seized wealth will serve as the starting point of the investigation, and more undisclosed assets could surface as the probe continues.
