New Delhi: A powerful explosion occurred near the Red Fort in Delhi on Monday evening, killing at least 11 people and injuring 24 others. The blast took place at 6:52 pm near Gate No. 1 of Fort Metro Station, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golcha said.
Home Minister Amit Shah confirmed that the explosion originated from the rear of an I-20 car. Following the incident, he visited LNJP Hospital in the evening and is expected to reach the site shortly.
The police have cordoned off the area, and a forensic team is examining the scene. CCTV footage from nearby locations is being reviewed. The National Investigation Agency (NIA) and National Security Guard (NSG) teams have also been deployed.
Earlier, PM Modi spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah to get updates on the incident. A high alert has been issued in Delhi, Mumbai, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Haryana, Punjab, and Uttarakhand.
