New Delhi: The disruption in IndiGo’s operations continued for the seventh consecutive day on Monday, with the airline cancelling around 250 flights from Bengaluru and Delhi airports. The large-scale delays and cancellations have caused severe inconvenience to passengers nationwide.
According to airport sources, IndiGo cancelled 127 flights from Bengaluru, including 65 arrivals and 62 departures. Similarly, 134 flights were cancelled from New Delhi airport. The airline has been under pressure since December 2, with hundreds of flights grounded daily.
Meanwhile, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has extended the deadline for IndiGo CEO Peter Albers and Chief Operating Officer and Accounting Manager Isidro Porqueras to respond to the show-cause notices issued on Saturday. The regulator had initially given 24 hours to explain the “significant shortcomings in planning, monitoring and resource management” that led to the large-scale operational failure.
The Gurugram-based airline, partly owned by Rahul Bhatia, is facing growing criticism from both the government and affected passengers. The crisis stems largely from pilot shortages and reported dissatisfaction over new duty schedules, resulting in further delays and mass cancellations.
With lakhs of passengers stranded across airports in India, pressure is mounting on the airline to stabilise operations and provide clarity on when normal services will resume.
