Jail superintendent attacked during clash between inmates at Ludhiana central jail

Ludhiana: A violent clash broke out between two groups of inmates at the Central Jail on Tajpur Road here around 8 pm on Tuesday. The situation escalated when jail staff attempted to intervene and later turned violent during efforts to pacify the inmates.

According to reports, the clash began following a verbal altercation between two groups of inmates. Jail staff initially tried to control the situation, but the inmates did not relent. Jail Superintendent Kulwant Sidhu then reached the spot and tried to counsel the inmates. However, a group of inmates allegedly attacked him during the intervention.

Senior jail officials were called to the spot and efforts are ongoing to bring the situation under control. No official statement has been issued so far regarding the extent of injuries or the exact sequence of events.

Commissioner of Police Swapan Sharma, along with a police team, reached the jail and is investigating the incident. Further details are awaited.
