Malerkotla News: In view of winter conditions and dense fog, the district administration carried out surprise inspections of school buses under the Safe School Vehicle Policy. Acting on the directions of Deputy Commissioner Viraj S. Tirke and District Child Protection Officer Harpreet Kaur, officials checked six school buses from different schools to ensure student safety.
During the inspection, buses violating prescribed norms were challaned. Authorities examined vehicle documents, drivers’ licences, fitness certificates, insurance papers and pollution control certificates. Safety equipment including first-aid boxes, fire extinguishers, emergency exits, speed governors, reflectors, fog lights and GPS systems was also verified.
Drivers were instructed to maintain slow speed during foggy conditions, use headlights and indicators properly, and strictly follow traffic rules. The Child Protection Unit clearly conveyed to school managements and drivers that no compromise would be made with children’s safety.
Parents were also urged to send their children only through authorised and safe school vehicles. The administration stated that such inspection drives will continue regularly to ensure the safety of students at all times.
