Tarn Taran: A shocking incident unfolded at a college in Usma village of Punjab’s Tarn Taran district on Monday where a young man allegedly shot dead his female classmate before turning the gun on himself inside the campus, triggering panic among students and staff.
The deceased woman has been identified as Sandeep Kaur, a resident of Naushehra Pannuan village, while the youth has been identified as Prince Raj Singh of Mallian village. Both were students of law at the same college.
According to preliminary information, Prinseraj Singh entered the college campus carrying a pistol and allegedly opened fire at Sandeep Kaur, killing her on the spot. Immediately after the attack, he allegedly shot himself with the same weapon and died.
Videos purportedly showing the aftermath of the incident have gone viral on social media. Following the shooting, chaos gripped the campus, and the college authorities informed the police.
Tarn Taran senior superintendent of police (SSP) Surinder Lamba said the weapon used in the crime has been recovered from the spot. “The incident is being investigated from all angles. We are examining how the accused procured the firearm and how he managed to enter the college premises with a weapon despite security arrangements,” the SSP said.
Police have launched a detailed probe to ascertain the motive behind the crime and are questioning witnesses as part of the investigation.
