Chandigarh: The central leadership of the Bharatiya Janata Party has begun laying the groundwork for the 2027 Punjab Assembly elections, with a focused outreach strategy targeting non-Punjabi voters in the state.
The party has entrusted Nayab Singh Saini, Chief Minister of Haryana, with spearheading the campaign. Saini will engage with communities from other states who have settled in Punjab, beginning with the Purvanchal community.
On Sunday, Saini is scheduled to address a rally of the Purvanchal community in Ludhiana under the “Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat” campaign. The event is being organised by the BJP’s Purvanchal cell at Lohara, where arrangements have been made for around 10,000 attendees.
Rajesh Mishra, state convenor of the Purvanchal cell and a municipal councillor, said the rally aims to strengthen dialogue between the party and members of the community. He claimed that more than 10 lakh people from the Purvanchal region reside in Ludhiana district, though some are registered as voters in Punjab while others remain enrolled in their native states.
Mishra added that the party will encourage eligible residents to participate actively in the electoral process.
The Purvanchal community is considered influential in Ludhiana’s South, East, Atam Nagar, North and Sahnewal constituencies, where its vote share is seen as significant in determining electoral outcomes.
As part of the broader outreach, the BJP plans to organise similar rallies across Punjab to connect with migrant communities from different states ahead of the 2027 elections.
