Chandigarh: Leader of Opposition Partap Singh Bajwa urged the Speaker to allow Congress MLA Sukhpal Singh Khaira to present his side in keeping with democratic norms. However, Speaker Kultar Singh Sandhwan rejected the request, stating that Khaira would not be permitted to speak unless he issued an unconditional apology in the House for remarks allegedly made against women.
Following the Speaker’s decision, Congress MLAs staged a walkout from the Punjab Legislative Assembly.
After the House reconvened at 2 pm, discussion on the Punjab Budget for the financial year 2026–27 resumed. The Assembly shifted focus to the state’s financial roadmap after the morning session witnessed heavy uproar and adjournment of proceedings.
