High court stays arrest of rapper Badshah in ‘Tateeree’ song controversy

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court has granted interim relief to rapper Badshah in connection with the controversy surrounding his song ‘Tateeree’, staying his arrest for now.

The relief came after Badshah challenged the Haryana State Commission for Women’s directions ordering his arrest for failing to appear before it. The commission had issued instructions to the Panchkula SSP to take action after the singer did not comply with summons.

The court, while hearing the petition, ordered a stay on his arrest, providing temporary relief. Following the order, police are also expected to withdraw the lookout notice issued against him.

The controversy stems from alleged objectionable and obscene lyrics in the song, over which two cases have been registered against the singer in Haryana.

Badshah had been asked to appear before the commission in Panipat but failed to do so. His counsel argued that he could not attend due to prior commitments and sought additional time for appearance.

The matter is currently under judicial consideration, and further proceedings are awaited.
