Chandigarh: Concerns over a possible shortage of LPG cylinders, petrol and diesel have intensified across the country amid the ongoing conflict involving the US, Israel and Iran.
In Punjab, the situation around LPG bookings has become strained, while anxiety is higher over diesel availability with the wheat harvesting and paddy sowing season approaching.
Addressing the issue, Punjab Food and Civil Supplies Minister Lal Chand Kataruchak said the state assembly has passed a resolution urging the Centre to ensure uninterrupted supply and explore alternative sources.
“We have appealed to the Centre to find substitute supply lines so that people do not face difficulties. If there is disruption in one region, petroleum products can be sourced from other countries,” he said.
The minister added that the state government is closely monitoring the situation and stands with the people during the crisis.
The government is also keeping a watch on hoarding and black marketing, with officials indicating that strict action will be taken against those trying to exploit the situation.
