New Delhi: A major administrative controversy has emerged during election duty in Kolkata, with senior IAS officer Anurag Yadav being removed from his post as election observer with immediate effect.
According to media reports, the action followed a heated exchange between Yadav and Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar during a high-level meeting in Kolkata.
Sources said tensions escalated when Yadav allegedly failed to provide satisfactory responses to key questions, leading to a sharp verbal confrontation. It is further reported that the CEC expressed strong displeasure and asked him to “go home,” triggering a strong reaction from the officer.
Yadav is said to have responded by asserting his seniority, stating he had served for 25 years and could not be spoken to in such a manner.
Soon after the exchange, the Election Commission took a strict view and removed Yadav from his role as observer. The move is being seen as an effort to maintain administrative discipline during the election process.
The incident has sparked widespread discussion in bureaucratic circles, raising questions over conduct and accountability during sensitive election duties. Yadav currently serves as Principal Secretary, Social Welfare, in the Uttar Pradesh government.
