Chandigarh: A senior police officer, Yogesh Kumar, posted with the Anti-Narcotics Task Force, died after sustaining a gunshot injury at his official residence on Tuesday morning.
The incident occurred around 7:30 am at police quarters, where the officer was present with his family members. He was immediately rushed to a private hospital in Jalandhar, where doctors declared him dead.
Confirming the incident, Gaurav Toora said that an investigation has been launched to determine whether it was a case of suicide or an accidental firing.
Preliminary inputs from family members suggest that the shots hit while the officer was cleaning his weapon. Notably, Kumar had been transferred just three days ago from ANTF to the Bureau of Investigation in Chandigarh.
Police officials are examining all angles to ascertain the exact cause of the incident.
