Chandigarh: A major twist has emerged in the high-profile NRI woman murder case in Ludhiana after the Punjab Police registered an FIR against former Dehlon SHO Sukhjinder Singh and police munshi Head Constable Sanjeev Kumar.
Both officials have been accused of tampering with evidence, manipulating official records and preparing forged documents during the investigation.
According to police sources, a departmental probe ordered by senior officers found several serious irregularities in the case file. At the time the murder case was registered, Inspector Sukhjinder Singh was posted as SHO of Dehlon police station and was leading the investigation.
The case is related to the disappearance and murder of 72-year-old NRI woman Rupinder Kaur, originally from Shimlapuri and settled in the United States.
On August 18, 2025, Sukhjit Singh, a resident of Kila Raipur, informed police that Rupinder Kaur had left home saying she was travelling to Canada for a wedding function after heading towards the Delhi airport, but later went missing.
Police are now probing the alleged irregularities in the original investigation conducted by the accused officers.
