Australian citizen goes missing during Punjab visit; family fears foul play

Chandigarh: A 66-year-old Australian citizen has been reported missing during a visit to Punjab, prompting growing concern among family members who fear he may have been the victim of foul play.

Sunil Sharma, an Australian resident originally from India, was last seen on May 22 while in Amritsar, where he had travelled to oversee the sale of a property. According to his family, both Sharma and his vehicle have been missing since that day.

Family members said Sharma had travelled to Punjab to manage matters related to properties he owned in Amritsar and Mohali. He was reportedly supervising renovation and painting work at the Amritsar property before putting it on the market.

His daughter said the family lost contact with him on May 22 and became alarmed after repeated attempts to reach him failed. Concern escalated when relatives realised that neither Sharma nor his car could be located.

Originally from India, Sharma had been living in Australia for more than three decades and worked as a high school mathematics teacher. Family members described his disappearance as highly unusual and said they are seeking answers about his whereabouts.

The family has appealed to authorities and members of the public for any information that could assist in tracing him. Police are understood to be examining the circumstances surrounding the disappearance.

The investigation remains ongoing.
