Ludhiana: A toxic gas leak at a factory located on RK Road in Ludhiana on Monday claimed the lives of three workers, including a father and son, while several others were affected in the incident. Two workers are reported to be in critical condition and are undergoing treatment.

According to initial information, work was underway as usual at the factory when poisonous gas allegedly started leaking from a pipeline or gas cylinder. Within minutes, the gas spread across the premises, triggering panic among workers and leaving several unconscious due to breathing difficulties and severe irritation in the eyes.

The deceased have been identified as Mana and his son Amit. The identity of the third victim is yet to be officially confirmed. Officials said the father-son duo were loading industrial waste into a trolley from beneath a machine when they came into direct contact with the toxic gas.

The impact of the leak was so severe that several workers did not get enough time to escape. Many collapsed inside the factory premises as the gas rapidly filled the area.

Police from Moti Nagar police station, along with emergency response and administrative teams, rushed to the spot after receiving information about the incident. Rescue operations were launched immediately, and affected workers were shifted for medical treatment.

The bodies of the deceased have been sent to the Civil Hospital for post-mortem examination. Authorities have launched an investigation to ascertain the exact cause of the leak and to determine whether safety protocols were being followed at the industrial unit.

Moti Nagar SHO Inspector Bhupinder Singh said the matter is being investigated thoroughly and strict legal action will be taken if any negligence is found during the probe.
