Amritsar: A school teacher was brutally murdered in broad daylight in Amritsar on Monday after unidentified assailants allegedly attacked him with sharp-edged weapons and slit his throat.
The incident took place around 2 pm near the Narayangarh drain. The victim has been identified as Jagdeep Singh, a resident of Talwandi village.
According to preliminary information, Jagdeep Singh had gone to drop his daughter at a tuition centre and was returning home when he was intercepted by a group of attackers. The assailants allegedly surrounded him and launched a violent attack using sharp weapons.
Police sources said the attackers inflicted multiple injuries before slitting his throat. Jagdeep Singh suffered excessive blood loss and died on the spot before medical help could arrive.
The incident triggered panic in the area, with local residents gathering at the scene soon after the attack. Police teams reached the spot, secured the area and shifted the body for post-mortem examination.
Investigators have launched a probe to ascertain the motive behind the killing and identify those involved. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined, while police are also questioning witnesses as part of the investigation.
