Punjab civic polls on July 5, State Election Commission announces schedule

Chandigarh: The Punjab State Election Commission has announced elections for four urban local bodies in the state. Polling for Hoshiarpur Municipal Corporation, Guruharsahai Municipal Council, Jalalabad Municipal Council and Mamdot Nagar Panchayat will be held on July 5.

State Election Commissioner Raj Kamal Chaudhuri said nomination papers can be filed from June 22 to June 25 between 11 am and 3 pm at the offices of the respective Returning Officers.

Scrutiny of nomination papers will take place on June 26, while candidates will be allowed to withdraw their nominations until 3 pm on June 27.

Polling will be conducted on July 5 from 8 am to 4 pm, and the results will be declared the same day after voting concludes.

The Election Commission said voting will be conducted through Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs). Necessary arrangements have been made to ensure the elections are conducted in a free, fair and peaceful manner.

The Model Code of Conduct has come into immediate effect in the jurisdictions of the concerned municipal bodies and will remain in force until the completion of the election process.
