Chandigarh: A delegation led by Nihang Singh leader Baba Achhar Singh Mahankal submitted a memorandum to Tehsildar Sandeep Kumar and Kiratpur Sahib SHO Rahul Kumar regarding issues related to toll and entry taxes imposed on Punjab-bound vehicles and travellers in Himachal Pradesh.
Addressing the media, leaders of the organisation said resentment was growing among people over the alleged discrimination faced by Punjab vehicles and passengers in Himachal Pradesh, which had prompted the decision to launch a ‘Khalsa Tax’ movement.
Baba Achhar Singh Mahankal said the delegation had also met the DSP a day earlier. According to him, the administration assured the group that all possible efforts would be made to resolve the issue and requested them to defer their proposed agitation for the time being.
He said the organisation’s objective was not to inconvenience any section of society but to raise concerns related to the rights of Punjab travellers and ensure that these issues reach the government.
Tehsildar Sandeep Kumar confirmed that a memorandum outlining the organisation’s demands regarding toll and entry taxes had been submitted. He said the administration was coordinating with the Punjab government and efforts were underway to facilitate a meeting between the organisation and Punjab Cabinet Minister Harjot Singh Bains to find a lasting solution to the dispute.
The development comes amid protests over entry taxes and other charges allegedly affecting travellers from Punjab entering Himachal Pradesh through border routes.
