Committee formed; report sought at the earliest, legal action also initiated against organisers
Jalandhar News (June 19): Taking serious note of a swing mishap during a religious fair in Phillaur, Jalandhar District Administration has ordered a detailed inquiry into the incident in which several persons were injured after a swing reportedly malfunctioned.
SDM Simranjit Singh said that the District Administration has constituted a committee which has been tasked with investigating the cause of the mishap and examining any lapse on the part of the organisers. The committee will inquire wheather requisite permission had been obtained from the competent authorities for holding this event.
However, the SDM said that a legal action has consequently been initiated in the matter by local police. He also said that the administration would take strict action against anyone found negligent or responsible for violations of safety norms. He also said that the committee would submit its detailed report within a stipulated time-frame.
Meanwhile, the injured persons were immediately shifted to hospital, where they are undergoing treatment. The SDM said that the Health Department was asked to ensure proper medical care and monitoring of all those injured in the incident.
He said the district administration would not tolerate any compromise with public safety and would ensure accountability in the case.
