Several injured after two passenger trains collide in Poland

Warsaw: Several people were injured after two passenger trains collided near Białośliwie in west-central Poland on Thursday evening, authorities said.

Poland’s fire service spokesperson, Paweł Rykowski, said one train was travelling from Kołobrzeg to Warsaw East Station, while the other was operating between Piła and Bydgoszcz. The collision occurred at around 6.04 pm local time in the Białośliwie area.

According to officials, around 200 passengers were on board the two trains at the time of the accident. Emergency services and rescue teams were rushed to the scene immediately after the collision.

Authorities said details regarding the number of injured and the extent of the damage were still being assessed.

Videos shared on social media showed passengers standing beside the railway tracks, while several train coaches appeared to have derailed following the impact.

Poland’s railway and safety authorities have launched an investigation into the cause of the collision. The exact circumstances leading to the crash have not yet been determined.

Rescue operations were continuing as officials worked to evacuate passengers and move them to safe locations.
