Chandigarh: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) probing the 2015 Behbal Kalan police firing and sacrilege cases has issued summons to former Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal) MLA Mantar Singh Brar for questioning.
Brar was the MLA from Kotkapura when the incidents took place in Faridkot district in 2015.
The probe relates to the sacrilege of Sri Guru Granth Sahib reported at Bargari village in October 2015, which triggered widespread protests by Sikh organisations and local residents at Kotkapura and Behbal Kalan.
On October 14, 2015, police attempted to disperse protesters, leading to clashes. During the firing at Behbal Kalan, two Sikh protesters, Gurjit Singh and Krishan Bhagwan Singh, were killed while several others sustained injuries.
The SIT has now intensified its investigation into the alleged political and administrative decision-making during the incidents.
As part of the ongoing probe, the investigation team recently questioned the then Faridkot Deputy Commissioner M.S. Jaggi and a former Officer on Special Duty (OSD) to former Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal. Investigators are examining records of communication between the Chief Minister’s Office (CMO), local political leaders and senior police officials to establish the sequence of events and decision-making during the 2015 incidents.
