Ravneet Bittu shares photos of armed militants amid ‘Satluj’ row, asks: Who were these men with AK-47s?

New Delhi: The controversy surrounding Punjabi singer-actor Diljit Dosanjh’s film Satluj intensified on Thursday after Union Minister of State Ravneet Singh Bittu shared photographs of armed men, claiming they were militants who roamed the streets of Punjab during the 1990s.

In a social media post, Bittu shared images showing heavily armed youths carrying assault rifles and drum magazines, asking, “Who were these people carrying AK-47s and drum magazines on the streets of Punjab?” His remarks come amid the ongoing political debate over the film and its portrayal of Punjab’s militancy era.

Meanwhile, the Satluj controversy has now reached the Punjab and Haryana High Court. Mohali resident Sarwan Singh has filed a petition seeking directions to restore the film on the OTT platform from which it was removed.

At the same time, the murder case of human rights activist Jaswant Singh Khalra has resurfaced following fresh developments.

The Nabha Open Agricultural Jail administration has written to the Hoshiarpur Police asking them to trace former DSP Jaspal Singh, who is serving a life sentence in the Khalra murder case and was released on bail in May 2023 after furnishing a personal bond of ₹1 lakh.

Hoshiarpur Sadar Police has confirmed that it received directions to locate the former police officer. According to officials, his whereabouts have not been established since his release on bail, prompting the jail authorities to seek police assistance.
