Chandigarh: The Haryana government has denied reports of any firing incident outside the Karnal residence of Diljit Dosanjh’s manager Gurpratap Singh Kang in Gondar village. However, Punjab’s ruling Aam Aadmi Party has alleged that the controversy carries a “political motive”.
AAP leaders in Punjab claimed that the incident did take place and alleged that the Lawrence Bishnoi gang had taken responsibility for it. Party leaders further alleged that the episode was aimed at pressuring Diljit Dosanjh to join the Bharatiya Janata Party.
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said the alleged targeting of the singer’s manager came soon after Diljit publicly clarified that he had no association with the BJP. He accused the Bishnoi gang of operating fearlessly and alleged that the BJP government had shielded Lawrence Bishnoi from proper interrogation while lodged in Sabarmati Jail.
Several other AAP ministers also claimed that the alleged firing incident was linked to Diljit’s refusal to accept an offer to join the BJP.
The controversy intensified after Diljit Dosanjh reacted to a report published by The Tribune and firmly stated that he had no intention of entering politics. The singer said he was happy entertaining people as an artist and had no plans to join any political party.
