CM Mann’s Chandigarh press conference cancelled; AAP targets Centre over fuel price hike

Chandigarh: A scheduled press conference of Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann in Chandigarh on Thursday afternoon was cancelled, according to the Aam Aadmi Party office.

Shortly before the cancellation, Punjab AAP president Aman Arora addressed the media and launched a sharp attack on the Central government over rising fuel prices and inflation.

Arora claimed that immediately after the West Bengal election results, the Centre sharply increased LPG cylinder prices and has now raised petrol and diesel prices by more than Rs 3 per litre.

He warned that continuous inflation was troubling ordinary citizens and said public anger could spill onto the streets.

‘Fuel price hike will impact entire system’

Aman Arora said the increase in petrol and diesel prices would affect the entire economic system and further raise inflation across the country.

He criticised the Centre’s recent calls for work-from-home and reduced fuel consumption, saying such appeals reflected governance failure.

“Today the government is asking people to work from home. Tomorrow it may say we will provide flour and pulses, so don’t work at all and stay home,” Arora remarked while targeting the Centre’s economic policies.

AAP questions Election Commission’s intent over SIR exercise

Reacting to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of voter lists announced by the Election Commission of India, Arora clarified that AAP has no objection to the revision exercise itself.

However, he alleged that those conducting the process were acting with political motives.

“The Election Commission is working like an agent of the BJP,” he claimed.

Arora said the party does not doubt the officials or employees involved in the process but questioned the intent behind the final publication of voter lists.

Referring to West Bengal, he alleged that similar concerns had emerged there as well.
