Chandigarh: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Harmit Singh Pathanmajra from the Sanour Assembly constituency in Patiala district received major relief on Saturday after the Punjab and Haryana High Court granted him regular bail in a rape case registered against him.
With the latest order, Pathanmajra’s release from jail has effectively been cleared, as he has now secured bail in both cases in which he was facing legal proceedings.
The MLA had been lodged in jail for the past several months in connection with two separate cases. Earlier, a local court in Patiala had granted him bail in an illegal mining case registered under the Mines and Minerals Act.
However, he continued to remain behind bars due to the rape case, in which a woman from Zirakpur had accused him of rape, cheating and criminal intimidation.
Following the High Court’s decision to grant regular bail in the second case, there are now no legal hurdles to his release, subject to the completion of procedural formalities.
Pathanmajra, who represents the Sanour constituency, has remained at the centre of political and legal controversy since the registration of the cases against him. The High Court’s order marks a significant development in the ongoing proceedings.
