High Court likely to hear Sandeep Pathak’s plea tomorrow

Chandigarh: The Punjab and Haryana High Court is likely to hear on Friday a petition filed by Rajya Sabha MP Sandeep Kumar Pathak seeking directions to the Punjab government and police authorities to disclose details of “two or any other FIRs” allegedly registered against him.

In his petition, Pathak has sought immediate supply of certified copies of the FIRs purportedly lodged by the Punjab Police against him. He has also requested the court to restrain the police from taking any coercive action, including arrest, until the matter is heard fully and he is able to approach the appropriate legal forum.

The plea further seeks complete details of the FIRs, including the FIR numbers, dates of registration, names and addresses of the police stations concerned, and the districts where the cases were allegedly registered.

According to the petition, the petitioner had “recently exercised his constitutional right to change his political party and join another party.” It states that soon after this development, he was informed through unofficial and media sources that the Punjab Police had allegedly registered two or more FIRs against him.

The petition alleges that despite “best efforts”, the petitioner was not provided any information related to the FIRs. Senior Advocate R S Rai is expected to appear on behalf of the petitioner before the court.

The plea also claims that the FIRs have not been uploaded on the official website, allegedly in violation of court directions regarding mandatory disclosure of such information.
