Chandigarh: A Bathinda court has sent Amritpal Singh Mehro, the main accused in the murder of social media influencer Kamal Kaur Bhabhi, to judicial custody till April 29.
Mehro was produced in court after the completion of his five-day police remand.
According to officials, the accused had allegedly fled to the UAE after the murder in June last year. He was later deported and brought back to India on April 10.
During the hearing, police sought permission to collect his voice sample and conduct an identification parade, but the court rejected both requests.
Station House Officer Sub-Inspector Raghveer Singh said that recovery of the victim’s phone and identification of an unknown accused remain part of the ongoing investigation, but declined to share further details.
Interestingly, the police did not seek further custody of the accused. Sources said three mobile phones recovered from Mehro have been sent to a forensic science laboratory for data recovery as part of the probe.
