Chandigarh: The appointment of 1992-batch IPS officer Gaurav Yadav as Punjab’s regular Director General of Police (DGP) is expected to be formalised after the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) approved a panel of three senior officers for the post.
According to sources, the UPSC’s empanelment committee has cleared the names of Sharad Satya Chauhan, currently Director, Punjab Vigilance Bureau, Harpreet Singh Sidhu, and Gaurav Yadav for consideration as the state’s regular DGP.
The UPSC empanelment committee met in New Delhi on Monday to finalise the panel. Punjab Chief Secretary K.A.P. Sinha and Additional Chief Secretary (Home) Alok Shekhar also attended the meeting.
The approved panel will now be forwarded to the Punjab government, which will make the final selection from among the three shortlisted officers.
Sources indicate that Gaurav Yadav has emerged as the leading contender for the post, although the official appointment will be made only after the Punjab government issues the formal notification.
