Leeds: England defeated India by five wickets in the opening Test of the Anderson-Tendulkar series at Headingley, taking a 1-0 lead in the series. Chasing a target on the final day, England rode on a brilliant 149-run knock from Ben Duckett to seal the win.
Duckett laid the foundation with a 188-run opening stand alongside Zak Crawley. He later added 47 runs for the third wicket with Joe Root, accelerating the scoring rate to ensure enough overs remained to chase down the target.
After Duckett’s dismissal, Root anchored the innings with key partnerships — 49 runs with Ben Stokes and an unbeaten 71-run stand with Ollie Smith — guiding England to victory.
For India, Shardul Thakur and Prasidh Krishna claimed two wickets each, but their efforts were not enough to prevent England’s successful chase.
