Chandigarh: A labourer couple died after a fire broke out in their house in Moom village in Mehal Kalan Tehsil in Barnala District, officials said on Tuesday.
According to the information, Jugraj Singh (45) and his wife Angrez Kaur (40) were sleeping when a short circuit triggered a fire around 3 am.
Jugraj Singh died on the spot, while Angrez Kaur was rushed to Barnala Government Hospital and later referred to Faridkot emergency due to her critical condition. She died during treatment.
Villagers managed to control the fire with difficulty. The couple’s 10-year-old son was at his uncle’s house at the time of the incident and escaped unhurt.
