Patiala Police arrest childhood friend in medical student murder case

Chandigarh: Patiala Police has claimed to have solved the murder case of a fourth-year student of a government medical college, who was brutally stabbed to death on Monday.

Two days after the killing, police arrested the victim’s childhood friend, identified as Mohit Verma. Officials said three police teams worked continuously for more than 49 hours to trace and apprehend the accused.

Senior officers confirmed that Mohit Verma allegedly stabbed the victim, Kamaldeep Mittal, more than 28 times to ensure he was dead.

According to police, the accused initially confessed that he had taken between ₹12 lakh and ₹13 lakh from the victim and was allegedly demanding more money. Investigators said he had failed to return the earlier amount and became enraged when Kamaldeep asked for his money back.

Police had registered a murder case against Mohit Verma on Monday following the killing of the medical student in Patiala.
