Birmingham: The Indian cricket team has been advised to stay indoors after a suspicious packet was found near Centenary Chowk in Birmingham on the eve of the second Test match.
A BCCI source confirmed to media that players were asked not to venture out following a social media post by Birmingham City Centre Police.
Ahead of the second Test, Indian players usually visit the crowded Broad Street area near their hotel, but movement was restricted due to the security alert. Eight players, including captain Shubman Gill, attended training at Edgbaston, while the remaining ten members were on leave.
“We are currently conducting a cordon around Centenary Square in Birmingham City Centre, where a suspicious packet is being investigated,” Birmingham City Centre Police said on X.
The alert was received just before 3 pm, and several nearby buildings were evacuated as a precaution. The police lifted the cordon an hour later after the situation was assessed.
