Chandigarh: The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government in Punjab is set to expand its cabinet on Thursday, marking the seventh cabinet expansion in three years. Sources said a reshuffle in the portfolios of some ministers is also likely during this period.
Preparations for the oath-taking ceremony have begun, and permission for the event has been obtained from Raj Bhavan. A final decision on the expansion is expected by tonight. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann had indicated a few days ago that the cabinet would be expanded within two to three days.
Sanjeev Arora, the newly elected MLA from Ludhiana West, is expected to be inducted into the cabinet. He is likely to be assigned the housing or industry department. However, it is not yet clear if other new faces will be included in the cabinet during this expansion.
Punjab can have a maximum of 18 ministers, including the chief minister, in its cabinet.
