Chandigarh: Hours after real estate baron-turned-politician Ranjit Singh Gill joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a team of the Punjab Vigilance Bureau raided his residence and offices in Mohali and Kharar on Saturday morning.
Gill was unavailable for comment, but his close aides confirmed the raids and termed the action as political vendetta. A BJP leader alleged that Gill was under constant pressure to join the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), which prompted his late-night switch to the BJP on Friday.
“That is why he suddenly joined the BJP, and by morning, the Vigilance Bureau was at his doorstep,” claimed the leader, who was present at the official residence of Haryana Chief Minister Naib Singh Saini when Gill formally joined the party.
Further details are awaited.
