New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Thursday reserved its verdict on a plea seeking a stay on orders directing the removal of stray animals from roads in the Delhi-National Capital Region (NCR).
The matter, related to stray dogs in the region, is being heard by a three-judge bench comprising Justice Vikram Nath, Justice Sandeep Mehta, and Justice A.M. Anjaria.
During the hearing, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta told the bench that children are dying due to stray dog attacks in Delhi-NCR, adding that the issue needs to be resolved rather than turned into a controversy.
He said no one hates animals but noted that more than 37 lakh cases of dog bites have been reported nationwide in a year.
Senior advocate Kapil Sibal also urged the apex court to stay its August 11 order directing authorities to remove stray dogs from Delhi-NCR.
