Dubai: Pakistani fast bowler Haris Rauf has been fined 30 per cent of his match fee for misbehaviour and making aggressive gestures during the Asia Cup match against India, tournament sources said.
Rauf, along with teammate Sahibzada Farhan, had pleaded not guilty during an ICC hearing into their conduct. Farhan argued that his actions were part of “a traditional way of celebrating among his ethnic Pashtun tribe” and not intended as a violation.
The hearing was conducted by match referee Richie Richardson at the Pakistan team’s hotel, where both players appeared in person alongside team manager Naveed Akram Cheema. “They are likely to be fined and given demerit points, but there will be no restriction on both of them from playing matches,” a tournament source said.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) had accused the two players of making provocative gestures. Rauf reportedly mocked Indian fans by pointing towards falling planes, while Farhan celebrated animatedly after reaching his half-century.
India and Pakistan are set to meet again in the Asia Cup final on Sunday.
