RSS helped Sikhs during 1984 riots: PM Modi

New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday said that during the 1984 Sikh riots, the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) had helped Sikh families, with many taking shelter in the homes of RSS workers.

He also highlighted that RSS workers were among the first to reach victims during floods in Punjab, serving selflessly. The Prime Minister made these remarks at an event in Delhi marking 100 years of the RSS.

BJP spokesperson RP Singh said he too survived the riots with help from the RSS, adding that his parents were also protected at the time.

Meanwhile, SGPC member Gurcharan Singh Grewal acknowledged that many Hindu families had saved Sikhs during the riots, though it is unclear whether they were associated with the RSS.

He said, “RSS works for its Hindu religion, while Sikh institutions work for their own. The atrocities committed on us by the Congress during that time cannot be forgotten.”
