Chandigarh: A Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted to probe the case related to missing saroops of Guru Granth Sahib visited the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee office in Sector 5, Chandigarh, on Tuesday.
The SIT, led by SP Gurbans Singh Bans, met SGPC secretary Sukhminder Singh and formally sought access to relevant records connected with the case. The police team submitted a written request asking the committee to provide documents required for the investigation.
According to sources, the SGPC secretary assured the SIT that a response would be given only after consulting senior authorities of the organisation.
It may be recalled that an FIR in the missing saroops case was registered on December 7 at Islamabad police station under Sections 295, 295A, 120B, 409 and 465 of the Indian Penal Code.
As many as 16 persons were named in the case, including former and serving employees of the Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee and others.
