Mohali civic bodies launch bulldozer drive to remove encroachments after high court order

Chandigarh: The Mohali Municipal Corporation, in coordination with the police and the GMADA, has launched a major anti-encroachment drive across Mohali to clear illegal occupations from public spaces.

Bulldozers were deployed to remove encroachments made in green belts, markets, footpaths and other public areas. During the operation, authorities also removed hedges, flower beds and even parking spaces that residents had developed on government land.

Municipal officials said warnings had already been issued to residents and shopkeepers before the action was initiated. “Encroachments will have to be removed at any cost,” officials said, adding that no relaxation would be granted.

The action follows an order issued by the Punjab and Haryana High Court on January 13, directing the civic body to take strict measures against illegal occupations. After completion of the drive, the municipal corporation is required to submit a compliance report to the high court.

The civic body has again cautioned residents and encroachers to immediately remove illegal structures on their own. Public notices have also been issued, warning that failure to comply will invite further enforcement action.
