Chandigarh: Muktsar district police on Monday arrested the parents of Canada-based gangster Satinderjit Singh alias Goldy Brar in connection with an extortion case registered in 2024, officials said. The arrests come amid an intensified state-wide crackdown on gangsters and their support networks.
Confirming the development, Sadar Muktsar police station SHO sub-inspector Darshan Singh said the arrests were made on the basis of statements given by a resident of Udekaran village in Amritsar district, who had lodged a complaint of extortion. Goldy Brar’s father, Shamshersingh, and mother, Pritpal Kaur, were taken into custody from Amritsar.
The couple resides in Adesh Nagar on Kotkapura Road in Muktsar, though the family originally hails from Faridkot district. Shamshersingh, a former assistant sub-inspector in the Punjab Police, was compulsorily retired in 2021 after his alleged involvement surfaced in a murder case in Muktsar district.
Police officials said further investigation is underway to ascertain the extent of the accused persons’ role in the extortion case and to identify any additional links to organised crime networks.
