Gangster Goldy Brar’s father shifted to Bathinda hospital after health deteriorates

Chandigarh: The father of gangster Goldy Brar was shifted to a hospital in Bathinda on Sunday after his health deteriorated while in judicial custody.

Shamsher Singh and his wife, Pritpal Kaur, were arrested from Amritsar last Monday in connection with a 2024 extortion case registered in Muktsar district. After completion of four days of police remand, the couple was sent to judicial custody on Friday.

Shamsher Singh was scheduled to be shifted to Kapurthala jail, but his condition worsened during the process. He was first taken to the Government Medical College and Hospital in Faridkot and was later referred to a hospital in Bathinda for further treatment.

Shamsher Singh is a former assistant sub-inspector (ASI) of Punjab Police and was given compulsory retirement in 2021. Muktsar district police had arrested Goldy Brar’s parents in connection with an extortion case registered last year, as part of an intensified statewide crackdown on gangsters and their networks.

Sadar Muktsar police station SHO sub-inspector Darshan Singh said Shamsher Singh and Pritpal Kaur were arrested on the basis of statements given by a resident of Udekaran village in the extortion case. He added that the couple currently resides in Adesh Nagar on Kotkapura Road, though the family originally hails from Faridkot district.

Police sources said Shamsher Singh was compulsorily retired from service in 2021 after his alleged involvement surfaced in a murder case in Muktsar district.

Investigations in the extortion case are ongoing, while authorities said Shamsher Singh’s medical condition is being closely monitored.
