Jakhar alleges ‘conspiracy’ behind Congress disruption during PM Modi’s Lok Sabha address

Chandigarh: Punjab BJP president Sunil Jakhar on Friday escalated the political row over disruptions created by Congress MPs during Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled reply to the President’s Address in the Lok Sabha, alleging that the incident was part of a “well-thought-out conspiracy” rather than a routine parliamentary protest.

Referring to the cancellation of the Prime Minister’s Ferozepur visit ahead of the 2022 Punjab Assembly elections, Jakhar said the recent obstruction in Parliament followed a familiar pattern.

“Concerns over the conduct of certain Congress MPs in the Lok Sabha cannot be brushed aside as routine disruption. These actions reflect party policy and strategy,” he said, without naming specific MPs.

The Prime Minister’s Ferozepur visit on January 5, 2022, was called off after reports of security threats emerged, as protesting farmers had blocked the route his convoy was scheduled to take. At that time, Charanjit Singh Channi was serving as Punjab’s Chief Minister.

Jakhar remarked that “history does not become irrelevant when the same actors repeat the same patterns.” When asked to identify the MPs he was referring to, he said, “Everyone knows who these people are.” He added that those who had once turned the Prime Minister’s visit into a “security nightmare” were now attempting to paralyse Parliament itself.

“Preventing the Prime Minister from replying to the motion of thanks is not an insult to an individual,” Jakhar said. “It is a deliberate attack on the constitutional dignity of the Prime Minister’s Office. When arguments fail, institutions are targeted.”

Quoting poet Muzaffar Warsi, Jakhar concluded with a sharp barb at the opposition, underscoring what he described as a pattern of undermining democratic institutions when political narratives weaken.
