New Delhi: The Supreme Court dismissed a public interest litigation (PIL) filed by a Ludhiana-based garment trader, observing that the petition appeared to have been drafted using an artificial intelligence tool rather than proper legal advice.
A bench of Justice Abhay S. Oka and Justice Augustine George Masih noted that the petition lacked any meaningful legal arguments or factual basis. The court described the approach as “absurd” and criticised the petitioner for filing a plea without proper legal foundation.
During the hearing, the bench also made a sharp remark to the petitioner, saying, “Go and sell sweaters,” while warning that the court’s valuable time should not be wasted on baseless petitions.
The judges observed that while AI-generated language may appear impressive, legal proceedings require sound legal reasoning and supporting evidence rather than well-worded text alone. The court emphasised that petitions must be prepared with proper legal assistance and substantive grounds.
