New Delhi: In a major breakthrough in the sensational murder case of social media influencer Kanchan Kumari, police have arrested the alleged mastermind Amritpal Singh Mehro in the UAE and brought him back to Punjab.
Under the deportation process, Mehro was taken into custody from UAE authorities and is being brought to Bathinda via Chandigarh airport by a police team. He will be produced before a court.
According to police sources, Kanchan Kumari was murdered in June 2025 after being lured to Bathinda on the pretext of a promotional event. She was strangled to death on the night of June 9–10.
Investigations revealed that Mehro, along with his associates, carried out the killing. Police said he fled the country within hours of the crime with the help of an accomplice, Ranjit Singh, and left for the UAE from Amritsar International Airport on the morning of June 10, 2025.
Bathinda Police had earlier arrested two accused in the case, while Mehro had been absconding for a long time. Proceedings to declare him a proclaimed offender had also been initiated.
Efforts by central agencies and Interpol to secure his extradition have now succeeded, marking a key development in the case.
