Mumbai: Veteran playback singer Asha Bhosle passed away at the age of 92 following a cardiac arrest, according to reports.
She was admitted to Breach Candy Hospital in Mumbai on Saturday after her health deteriorated. Despite medical efforts, she could not be revived. Her last rites are scheduled to be held on Monday.
News of her demise triggered an outpouring of grief on social media, with fans and celebrities paying tribute to the iconic voice of Indian music.
Just hours before her passing, Prime Minister Narendra Modi had expressed concern over her health and wished her a speedy recovery in a post on X.
According to family sources, Bhosle had been hospitalised due to extreme fatigue and a chest infection, which later led to complications. Her granddaughter Zanai Bhosle had earlier shared an update on Instagram, stating that the singer was under treatment and the family was hopeful of her recovery.
