New Delhi: The Delhi High Court on Monday disposed of a petition filed by gangster Lawrence Bishnoi seeking a ban on the release of the docu-series Lawrence of Punjab on ZEE5.
Court cites Centre’s advisory
Justice Purushindra Kumar Kaurav said that no further orders were required as the central government had already issued an advisory restraining the OTT platform from streaming the series.
The court observed that unless the advisory by the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting is set aside, the makers cannot proceed with the release.
Liberty to approach court again
During the hearing, Bishnoi’s counsel raised concerns that the producers might release the content under a different name or format. However, the court said the petitioner is free to seek legal remedy again if such a situation arises.
ZEE5 may challenge advisory
Counsel for ZEE5 informed the court that the platform is in the process of challenging the Centre’s advisory before the Punjab and Haryana High Court, arguing that it is based on inputs from Punjab Police.
Punjab Police had earlier warned that content glorifying gangsters could disturb public order and influence youth negatively.
