Punjab News: Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann is on a Delhi visit today, where he is scheduled to hold important meetings with Union Road Transport and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari and Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan.
During the meetings, discussions are likely to focus on stalled projects of the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) in Punjab, wheat lifting from warehouses, and issues related to the upcoming paddy sowing season.
This will be CM Mann’s first meeting with Nitin Gadkari. Notably, the Centre and the Punjab Government have been at loggerheads over national highway projects in the state for a long time. The dispute mainly revolves around law and order concerns and land acquisition issues.
Earlier, Gadkari had written to the Punjab Government expressing concern over the safety of NHAI officials and contractors in the state. Referring to attacks and threats faced by engineers in Jalandhar and Ludhiana, he had warned that if the situation does not improve, around eight major highway projects worth nearly ₹14,288 crore could be cancelled.
