NCSC seeks reply over use of casteist terms in Census documents

New Delhi: The National Commission for Scheduled Castes has taken serious note of the alleged use of casteist terms in the official list prepared for upcoming Census-related work and issued a notice to the Director of Census Operations in Punjab.

In its notice, the commission sought an explanation on why such terms were used in government documents and what action has been taken in the matter.

The issue triggered resentment among social organisations and members of the Dalit community after it came to light.

The commission has directed the concerned authorities to submit a reply within the stipulated time and clarify the steps being taken to prevent the use of such language in official records in future.
