Nihang Singhs block Ferozepur Road outside DC office over delay in murder case

Chandigarh: Traffic came to a standstill in Ludhiana on Monday after Nihang Singhs blocked both sides of Ferozepur Road outside the Deputy Commissioner (DC) office, demanding justice in the three-year-old murder case of Nihang Singh Fatehveer Singh.

The protesters began their sit-in around 10 am, spreading mats across the main carriageway and completely blocking traffic in both directions. The blockade led to long queues of vehicles, causing major disruption for commuters. People heading to the District Courts and the Commissioner of Police (CP) office were also stopped from proceeding.

Senior police officials reached the spot and held talks with the protesters in an effort to persuade them to end the blockade.

The Nihang Singhs alleged that Fatehveer Singh was brutally murdered nearly three years ago in the Lalton area, but despite the passage of time, the police have failed to take effective action or arrest those responsible.

Protest leaders said they had repeatedly approached police and civil administration officials seeking justice but had received only assurances. Frustrated by the lack of progress, they decided to launch the road blockade.

The protesters warned that the agitation would continue indefinitely until the police provide a written assurance of concrete action and arrest those accused in the murder case.
