Cloudburst triggers flash flood in Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district, damages road and orchards

Shimla: A cloudburst in Kachrang village of Himachal Pradesh’s Kinnaur district triggered a flash flood early Wednesday, damaging a link road, a footbridge, drinking water supply schemes and apple orchards in the area. No loss of life has been reported.

According to officials, the cloudburst occurred in the Kachrang nullah near Nathpa, leading to a sudden surge in water flow that created panic among local residents. The flash flood damaged a link road connecting the village and washed away a pedestrian footbridge due to the strong current.

Several drinking water supply schemes were also affected, while apple orchards belonging to local farmers suffered damage.

Kinnaur Deputy Commissioner Dr Amit Kumar Sharma said no major property damage had been reported so far. He added that a team from the district administration, along with officials from various departments, had reached the affected village to assess the situation.

“The concerned departments have been directed to undertake restoration work on priority,” Sharma said.

Meanwhile, several parts of Himachal Pradesh received rainfall during the past 24 hours. Sundernagar recorded the highest rainfall at 30.2 mm, followed by Solan with 12 mm and Shimla with 9.6 mm. Dharamshala and Mandi recorded 1.2 mm rainfall each.

The rainfall led to a drop of 2 to 3 degrees Celsius in minimum temperatures across the state, according to weather officials.
